Vouvray wines are only white wines. This is due to the fact that the winegrowers are only allowed to plant and grow Chenin Blanc grapes. Most of the wines produced in Vouvray are sparkling wines - about 65% of the overall
production. However only 10% of the sparkling wines are exported, whereas 2/3 of the still wines are shipped abroad.
Typical dry, or sec, Vouvray wines display apple or pear flavours with a zesty acidity.
Dry Vouvray wines are well-balanced: they have high acidity, which is countered by small amounts of residual sugar.
