Tasting wine at 'Vignoble Alain Robert' (AOC Vouvray)

Loire-Valley-Wine-Tours-wine-tastings-Amboise-Vouvray-local-guide-family-winery

Our family winery is located in the Loire Valley, in the small village of Chançay, which is one of 8 villages where Vouvray wines are made.  Alain and Christiane Robert both grew up in the village, in wine-makers' families, and in 1973 they decided to found their own company. Later they were joined by their two children - Cyril in 2000 and Catherine in 2013.

We mostly produce produce Vouvray wines, both sparkling and still, as well as two other types of sparkling wines, under the DO Cremant de Loire and Touraine.

It's always been a tradition to welcome people at our winery, for wine tastings and visits of the rock-hewn cellar. Since 2014 Myriam, Cyril's wife, has increased the offer by organising a diversity of wine tours and wine tastings in the vineyard under the name 'Rendez-Vous dans les Vignes'.

Sailing on the Loire river with 'Millière Raboton'

Loire-Valley-wine-tours-wine-tastings-Amboise-Vouvray-local-guide-genuine-original-experience

Millière Raboton is a local organisation made of men and women that are all passionate about the Loire river. All year long, they offer rides on the river, on traditional wooden boats called 'toues'. These flat-bottomed boats were used until the mid-19th century to transport all sorts of goods - wine included - up and down the river.

The boat rides, led by professional and local pilots, offer visitors the opportunity to discover the history of the river, the plants and animals found in its environment... They are also a good way to look at the river from a different perspective.

Since 2017, Myriam from Rendez-Vous dans les Vignes et Millière Raboton have been organising evenings combining boat rides and wine and food tastings on the river. For a unique and unforgettable experience, in a magical and majestic setting.

To get an idea of what those evenings can be like, here is a little video filmed by one of the pilots, on a lovely day of June 2018.

Organising an at-home wine-tasting with Anne Ruilier, sommelière

at-home-wine-tasting-with-a-sommelier-Loire-Valley-Anne-Ruilier

You feel like organising an at-home wine tasting while staying in the Loire Valley? You can contact Anne Ruilier, who is a sommelier, on my behalf. We were colleagues when I worked at the Maison des Vins de Loire in 2013-2014, and since then, we have become very good friends. Anne, who speaks English, can come to your home to host wine tastings on various topics, depending on your desires and your budget.

Biking in the vineyard with 'Loire Valley Cycling'

You are attracted by slow tourism and would like to discover the Loire Valley by bike? The area offers a great variety  of cycling roads - the most famous of all being the 'Loire à Vélo' (the Loire by Bike), which is 900-km long. It starts in Cuffy, near Nevers, and ends in Saint-Brévin-les-Pins, in the Loire-Atlantique department, near the Atlantic ocean. However, more bike roads, closer to where we offer our Loire Wine Tours (for example the 'Cher à Vélo' or the 'Indre à Vélo', from the names of the rivers along which these roads will take you) will allow you to discover the region without having to travel long distances.

If you can't bring your own bike with you when travelling in the Loire Valley, several companies rent bikes to tourists.  For our bike rides and wine tastings in the vineyard, we partner with Loire Valley Cycling, a company based in Civray-de-Touraine, near Chenonceaux. People have the choice to start their bike tours from their shop in the village or to have bikes delivered to the places where they are staying in the area.
