Our loire wine Tours and wine tastings

Tired of the traditional and impersonal wine tours during which a guide drives you from winery to winery, where you don't get to meet the winemaker and where an employee will have you taste wines you won't even remember? If this is the case, our unique wine tours and wine tastings are made for you! Get off the beaten path and spend a few hours in the vineyard of the Loire Valley with Myriam, an English-speaking local guide, to discover the winemaker's work throughout the year and to learn about vine-growing, wine-making and wine tasting. Not only does Myriam, the wife and granddaughter of winemakers, share with you her passion for her native region, for wine and for wine tasting, but she is also eager to have you live a genuine, unique and unforgettable experience by welcoming you at her family's winery at the heart of the Loire Valley.

The following prices are valid from January 1st to December 31st 2021.

'From vine to wine' - €40/person

A complete wine experience, from vine to wine

Do you know how to make a sweet wine, or a rosé and a red wine? What about the bubbles in a sparkling wine?...  This complete wine experience at the heart of a family winery - a guided wine tour run by Myriam, a wine professional and the wife of the owner and winemaker - will allow you to discover the whole wine-making process, from grape to wine.

This 3-hour tour begins with a guided walk in the vineyard - where everything starts, as no good wine can be made without growing quality grapes in the first place!  You will learn about French 'AOCs' (Appellations of Controlled Origin) in general and about AOC Vouvray - which is produced in this area of the Loire Valley - in particular, about vine-growing and the vinegrower's work in the vines throughout the year. This guided walk will also be the opportunity for you to enjoy the beautiful vineyard landscapes and to discover troglodytes - traditional Loire Valley dwellings dug in the limestone. Don't forget to wear appropriate shoes for our walk in the vines.

We will then tour the family-owned winery and the rock-hewn cellar to learn about vinification, ageing and the traditional method, which is the process we use to make our sparkling wines. Depending on the date of your visit, you may be able to attend wine-bottling, disgorgement, labelling or even machine or hand harvest.

We will finish our wine tour with a tutored tasting of 6 Vouvray/Touraine/Loire wines served with slate boards of local delicacies (Loire fish rillettes, various local cheeses and charcuteries, a local dessert...) to learn about wine tasting and about food and wine pairing.

This wine tour is adapted to both beginners or wine amateurs (we've already had American sommeliers joining this tour). Our speech is adapted to everyone's knowledge about wine.

In case you are a vegetarian, please let us know in advance so that we can adapt the local delicacies served during the wine tasting to your diet. If you eat gluten-free food, you are welcome to bring your own bread.

'From vine to wine' tours in winter

You're visiting the Loire Valley in winter? Why not join the 'From vine to wine' tour during your stay in the area? People often think that visiting the vineyard is not so interesting in the winter time, as there are no leaves on the vines and no grapes to see or taste.  Indeed, but there is still a lot to show and to learn! Winter is a busy time for the vinegrowers, as it is pruning time. Which means you may be lucky to see workers pruning during the guided walk in the vineyard. Among other things, Myriam will explain how to prune, why pruning is so important... and the use of this strange wheelbarrow you can see in the picture. So wrap up warm and join us for a 'From vine to wine' tour!

'From vine to wine' tours during hot summer days

Global warming is here... winemakers all over the world are the actual witnesses of this sad phenomemon. We will tell you about its impact on vine-growing and wine-making during our wine tours.

This means summer weather in the Loire Valley tends to get warmer and warmer, sometimes bringing heat waves. During those particularly warm days, we still offer our traditional wine tours, but we adapt our visits so that you can enjoy them as much as possible and don't suffer from the heat.

The time when the tours start may change a little, depending on the peaks of temperature announced by the weather forecast. If you come in the afternoon, our walk in the vineyard offers some shade to find shelter (a little less in the morning but the temperatures are generally cooler at 10am). Myriam always takes a bottle of water, cups and a water sprayer with her during the vineyard walks and makes them available to visitors at any time. To finish we may drive our cars to get as close as possible to the vineyard and to avoid walking for too long on the road.

Then we'll let you imagine how delightful it is when, once the walk in the vineyard is over and we come back to the winery, we all enter the rock-hewn cellar, where the temperature is much cooler and refreshing! So don't hesitate, bring your hats and sun screen, and join us on one of our wine tours, in the beautiful sun of the Loire Valley!

'A taste of the Loire' - €45/person

Tasting of Loire wines served with regional finger food

You are a wine lover and want to learn about the Loire Valley vineyard and wines? You are a wine amateur interested in French and Loire Valley wines? You are visiting the Loire Valley but won't have time to cover all the different wine-making regions? This tour is made for you! It will allow you to discover the diversity of the wines produced all along the Loire river.

We will start with a tour of the family-owned winery and rock-hewn wine cellar, to discover the traditional method and learn about the French AOC (Appellation of Controlled Origin) system in general and about AOC Vouvray in particular. Then we will spend some time tasting 8 Loire wines served with local delicacies (Loire fish rillettes, various local cheeses and charcuteries, local desserts...). Most tours focus on one single region (if you go to Sancerre, you're likely to taste only Sancerre wines) whereas this wine tasting will allow you taste wines from 7 different appellations. This means you’ll get a good opportunity to get a more comprehensive understanding of the Loire Valley vineyard as a whole and to learn about the grape varieties, the types of soils and the AOCs (Denominations of Origin) in this region. The wine tasting will also allow you to learn how to read French wine labels.

If you are WSET certified or are preparing a WSET certification: it is possible to offer an even more thorough presentation of the Loire vineyard and its AOCs. After booking your tour, please send Myriam an email to ask for it.

In case you are a vegetarian, please let us know in advance so that we can adapt the local delicacies served during the wine tasting to your diet. If you eat gluten-free food, you are welcome to bring your own bread.

'Of wines and boats ' - €49/person

The Loire river offers a perfect setting to taste the wines produced in the area. Did you know that until the mid 19th century, the wines produced in the Loire Valley were transported on the Loire, either towards Paris or to the city of Nantes, from where they were then shipped abroad?

Since 2017, Myriam and Millière Raboton, homme de Loire, a company that throughout the year organises rides on the Loire aboard traditional wooden boats, have been offering wine and food tastings on boats.

Depending on the dates, the boat rides start either in Chaumont-sur-Loire, from the harbour located at the foot of the chateau, or in Amboise. They last about 4 hours and are the opportunity to discover the river (history, plants, animals...) thanks to the experimented pilots, as well as to taste 5 Loire Valley wines - one served directly on the boats, the others on a sandbar along or in the middle of the river, depending on the level of the river at the date of the ride. The wines are served with local delicacies such as cheeses, charcuterie, Loire fish rillettes. You won't need to have dinner after the tour, as there is sufficient food served with the wines. An original, genuine and unique experience, for a magical and unforgettable moment!

Children are welcome on this tour. They will taste local fruit juices instead of wine and will be served the same food as the adults.

Other dates are possible for groups of minimum 15 people. Price: €50/person. Contact Myriam of Loire Wine Tours for more information.
